Two weeks ago I was shooting from high above the Ohio River from the top of the western tower on Tower Five and the eastern tower of Tower Three. High above the Ohio River you can see the scope of the work on the Downtown Span of the Ohio River Bridges Project in Louisville, KY.

Climbing these towers placed me 300 feet above the Ohio River and allowed me capture some interesting views of the progress being made on the Downtown Span of the Ohio River Bridges Project. Three of the six towers have been completed and it won’t be long before the other three will be completed.

Most of the images in this post are three frame HDR Images from a bracket set of +2, 0 and -2 EV exposures. They were merged in NIK HDR Efex Pro 2 and finished in Adobe Camera Raw.

  1. Speed Demon 2,
Great photographs! Since I don’t like heights, your photographs a great way to experience sutff that gives me vertigo. Nice!

    1. Thanks Ellen I’ve been swamped with trying to keep up with the progress which has affected my time to create new posts. Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement.

    Big commitment big pay off!
A couple of technical questions please:
    1) how does nik compare with my HDR app, photomatix?
    2) do you weigh a bracketed shot in fusion mode? I mean, do you favor lighter shadow, say, then bring the processed image back to a darker exposure?
    Thanks!

    1. Wick thanks for your comment. In answer to your questions I find the anti-ghosting in NIK to be the best for what I shoot. I’ve tried PhotoMatix too but It’s a too obvious that it is HDR for me; inf act I seldom spend much time in NIK anymore. I usually merge my bracket set and apply as little anti-ghosting as I can get by with. After merging them I usually apply the Balanced preset and maybe boost the Detail. From there I take it into Adobe Camera Raw and finish it.

#2 It sounds like you are refering to a PhotoMatix feature but I’m not familiar with it. Sorry
