This sunset is another image from the photo shoot I did Monday evening from the Big Four Bridge in Louisville’s Waterfront Park. I wanted to include the Big Four Bridge with the Kennedy bridge and the preliminary construction for the Ohio River Downtown Span in one image. I set up my tripod and set my focus on the handrail in the foreground. I used a f11 aperture and a three frame bracket set of +2, 0 and -2 EV exposures. By using the small aperture I was able to capitalize on the lens’ depth of field and have everything in focus from the foreground to infinity.

My post processing was to use NIK HDR Efex Pro 2 to merge all three frames from the bracket set and apply the Balanced preset with the Detail slider set to Accentuated and the Drama slider set to Deep. During the merger I set anti-ghosting to 60% which helped give definition to the clouds and isolate the colors in the sunset. I then returned the merged file to Aperture 3 for final adjustment to Definition, Saturation, Luminance, Contrast, Mid-contrast, Color Channels and Sharpening before making my final crop to the image.

This is another bracket set using the same parameters as the other image except that I decided to try a slightly different crop.

    1. Thanks Lois I can’t get enough of this particular series of images. I’ve really enjoyed working my way through these images. BTW I also can’t get enough of the kind words from viewers…. 😉

  1. Beautiful!!! You did an amazing job! I would love to have a copy of it so I can be able to frame it up on my wall..

    1. I can do that. I use a local printer and print on Aluminum for a vibrant ready to hang print that captures the colors that you see on your monitor.
