This HDR image of Waterfront Park and the Ohio River was taken from the Big Four Bridge a couple of weeks ago. It was a cold crisp morning and the blue sky seemed to reinforce how cold it was. I liked the way the ramp to the Big Four Bridge cast an arcing shadow across the lawn. I also found the texture of the park to be a nice counterpoint with the glasslike surface of the river. The depth of the image is created by the leading lines of the concrete landing pointing toward the Walsh construction equipment and the distant skyline.
To create this HDR image I shot a three frame bracket set using +2, 0 and -2 EV exposures which were later merged using NIK HDR EFex Pro 2. I applied the Balanced preset in NIK HDR EFex Pro 2, adjusted the Detail slider to Accentuated and the Drama slider to Deep. I then returned the merged file to Aperture 3 for final processing. It didn’t need a lot of adjustment just some minor tweaks to the Definition, Highlights, Black Point and Mid-contrast before applying Sharpening and a Vignette.
Great shot Nick. Lucky you were able to get the shot without snow or ice!
You know how it is here in Louisville Bill today we are encased in ice and tomorrow it could be 70 degrees and sunny. 😉
